USB Flash Wristbands

Don’t these USB flash wristbands remind you of slap bracelets from the early nineties? I’m almost positive you can’t slap these geeky jewelry pieces against your wrist, but you can use them to store all your fave pics and important word files. Even if they don’t appeal to you as a jewelry accessory, they’re so outrageously bright that you’d never lose one no matter where it is! Pricing and storage capacity still unknown. What do you think? Something you could love or would you rather leave this one alone?

The Rasterbator

The Rasterbator is a brilliant application that creates huge, rasterized images from any picture. All you have to do is upload an image, print the resulting multi-page pdf file and assemble the pages into a beautiful (or disturbing – it all depends on your original image choice) poster that can be up to 20 meters in size. Yes, that’s right, you can now create that enormous John Mayer art piece you always wanted.

It’s relatively easy to use. You can either upload a file from your computer or use any file that is publicly available on the Internet. You will need a modern browser (Mozilla or Firefox are recommended) with Macromedia Flash Player 7 and you will need Adobe Reader (or other pdf viewer) in order to print the image. After you have cropped the image and selected a desired size, the rasterbated image will be sent to you as an easily printable pdf file. Visit the Rasterbator website for tips, galleries of amazing images and more about the application.

Pokémon Characters Fly High In The Sky

I knew Pokémon was an international phenomenon, but did you know that All Nippon Airways (ANA) has Pokémon airplanes? Serving both international and domestic flights, Pokémon jets are plastered with tons of Pokémon characters including Celebi, Plusle, Minun, Deoxys, Torchic, Jirachi, Latios, Latias, Pikachu, and the Gonbe. Featured on Joystiq and Kotaku these colorful airplanes boast flight attendants wearing Pokémon aprons and head rests covered with Pokémon designs. Meade mySKY Point And Shoot Star Explorer

Meade mySKY (Images courtesy Meade & Gearlog)

Even if you don’t pursue star gazing as a serious hobby I guarantee everyone at one point has spent some time staring up at the night sky. And if you’re completely ignorant about what you’re looking at the mySKY from Meade will serve as a handheld astronomy professor.

It’s kind of unfortunate the device looks like a toy gun because it packs some pretty serious technology and functionality. Just aim it at any object in the night sky and it will automatically identify it from a database of over 30,000 celestial objects. And using a 480×234 color LCD screen it will also display additional info about the object like photos and videos that are stored on an SD card. To allow for the simple point and shoot interaction the mySKY uses a built-in 12 channel GPS receiver, a magnetic north sensor and electronic accelerometers to determine exactly where it’s being aimed. Alternately you can specify an object you already know the name of and the mySKY will display arrows on the LCD which will help guide you to its location in the sky.

If you are an amateur astronomer the mySKY can even be used to control your Meade telescope with a special interface cable. Once your telescope is properly aligned it will automatically move to whatever you’ve targeted with the mySKY allowing you to see the object up close. (Relatively speaking.)

The mySKY should be available at the end of the month for about $400. While it’s not cheap it’s still pretty reasonable given what the device is capable of.
