Tefal Quick Cup – Hot Water In 3 Seconds

Tefal Quick Cup (Image courtesy Currys)

The Tefal Quick Cup (or T-Fal for those in North America and Japan) is another shot at improving the kettle by only heating as much water as is actually needed. You simply fill the reservoir with cold tap water and then any time you need hot water for coffee or tea you just push the red button and it will be automatically dispensed. The water is only heated as it travels from the reservoir to the spout and it only takes 3 seconds to bring the temperature to just below the boiling point using Tefal’s patented Opti-Quick system. And if you only need cold water just push the black button and you’ll get clean, filtered water from the spout instead.

Since the Quick Cup only heats the water as it’s being dispensed it dramatically cuts down on wasted energy. In fact Tefal claims the kettle can reduce energy consumption by 65% compared to a standard kettle. Not only is using less energy better for the environment but it’s also great for your monthly energy bill.

The Quick Cup will be released in early July (in Europe at least) and will retail for about $120. While it’s not cheap it’s probably one of those ‘better in the long run’ kind of things.

DV Hardware Reviews The HTC S710 Vox

HTC S710 Vox (Image courtesy DV Hardware)

I actually upgraded my trusty Nokia E61 to the HTC S710 over a month ago and while I really wanted to write a full review of the phone I haven’t had the time thanks to my ‘day job.’ Thankfully Thomas De Maesschalck over at DV Hardware did have the time to write one and overall he gives the phone an 8.5/10. For the specifics you can read his full review but here are my own impressions of the S710 after playing with it for a month now.

While the E61 was one of the best phones I’ve ever used I decided I wanted something a bit smaller and more importantly a phone with more 3rd party applications. Even after being out for over a year the list of apps available for the E61 was pretty dismal. At the same time I still wanted a dedicated keyboard so when I saw the S710 with its nifty slideout keyboard I knew it was the perfect fit.

So far the phone has been pretty good. Having been away from mobile versions of Windows for many years I can’t comment much on the upgrades made to Windows Mobile 6 but like most MS operating systems there have been a few hiccups here and there. Definitely more than the E61 ever had. On the plus side though there’s a mountain of 3rd party applications available which I really like. As for form factor for what the S710 is capable of it’s still remarkably small and pocketable. It is a bit on the heavy side but at the same time it tends to make the phone feel more solid than anything. And I have to say I’m especially impressed with what HTC has been able to pull off in only a few short years. The company entered an already crowded cellphone market and as far as I’m concerned are now producing some of the best Windows Mobile phones available.

For the complete specs on the S710 you can check out the product page on the HTC website.

Luxury yacht Salem up for sale for $19.75 million

salem1_48

Here is another magnificent yacht up for sale. The 241-foot Salem yacht, which was formerly built as Cumulus in 1963 as a weather ship and transformed into a luxury yacht in 1998, is up for sale now. It is for the very first time after its conversion into a yacht that it has come onto the market. Power-driven by a single 3996 HP MAN B&W Alpha Diesel engine, Salem cruises at 10 to14 knots thereby permitting for a range of 2141nm.

There are 5 decks on the yacht that offer accommodation for 48 guests and 43 crewmembers. The space and the interior volume are almost same to that of a 100 meter yacht. Interestingly, as Salem was refitted for a Middle Eastern client, it has an atypical layout where men and women are housed on different sets of self contained decks.

The comfy and luxurious yacht is presently berthed in Palma de Mallorca. Salem offers plenty of space for her length and is priced at sharp $19,750,000 at Edmiston.

Exclusively handcrafted 14K gold DOK set with diamond

gold-dok_48

We have had seen a plenty of gaudy USB sticks earlier and the latest in the family is the USB stick pictured above. Ludicrously dubbed ?Disk on Key? USB flash drive has been handcrafted out of 14K real gold. It is also festooned with Diamond 3 points (VS quality – very high quality diamond), which lights when the DOK is functioning. The gold DOK comes loaded with a variety of U3 programs and offers capacities of up to 4GB to store your photos, music, and valued data. The DOK is Hi-Speed USB 2.0 certified and is compatible with Windows 2000, SP4 and XP. The ornamented flash drive is available for a limited period only and is made on demand. I wish if someone could gift me this $2000 gold stick.

FlapFlap Falling Lamp Confuses Your Dog

FlapFlap Lamp

By Evan Ackerman

I’ve always liked objects that make you stop in your tracks and ask “what the heck…?” This lamp certainly qualifies. It’s suspended from nothing at a jaunty angle, constantly a few tenths of a second from smashing into bits. My guess would be that it’s actually being held up by a hidden support in the cord, but for all I know it’s black magic. If you want one, it’s a limited edition from 2001 from Hopf & Wortmann, so good luck finding your own, but it’s an easy (albeit brief) DIY with a normal lamp and a fast camera.
