Battlestar Galactica Video Game Available for Xbox and PC

Battlestar Galactica Arcade Game (Image via BSGArcade)

I am a big Sci Fi fan and one of my favorite TV shows of all time is Battlestar Galactica on the Sci Fi Channel. I was really bummed when I heard this was the last BSG season, almost as bummed as I was when I was a kid and the original series was cancelled.

Today Sierra Online and the Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group released a Battlestar Galactica space combat game based on the TV series from the Sci Fi Channel. The game is available for both PC and on Xbox LIVE Arcade. The game supports up to 16 players on PC and up to 8 players on Xbox. A single player game is also included.

Players can choose to play as a Cylon or as a human and players can also choose different ships and 10 missions from the TV series for the single player game. Four human ships and four Cylon ships including the Viper II and the Cylon Raider are available to pilot. Battlestar Galactica is rated E 10+ by the ESRB and will be available at retail outlets and by download for $19.99.

Adorable Laptop Sleeves by Barry’s Farm

How cool is this laptop sleeve by Barry’s Farm? Doesn’t it resemble something else you’ve seen on Geek before? From the same creators of the popular 9 to 5 business sleeve, this case comes with a durable vinyl exterior with a cute printed flannel lining on the interior to keep your laptop nice and protected. Featured on Shiny Shiny each sleeve costs $40 and comes in a variety of designs—check them out below! I’m not one for showing off my laptop sleeve which usually goes straight into my laptop bag, but this one is definitely an exception!

Make A Mixa – Cassette Shaped USB Drive

Make a Mixa (Images courtesy Magnetic North Interactive Ltd.)
Given my earlier post I guess I should declare this ‘retro audio cassette day‘ here on OhGizmo! And in keeping with that theme here’s a new way to enjoy audio cassettes, without having to deal with their craptastic sound quality.

The MIXA is basically a 1GB flash drive that’s been integrated into an audio cassette shell. The real appeal though comes with the MIXA website which allows you to interactively design a custom label for the tape. You can choose from a collection of pre-existing designs, which still offer a bit of customization, or upload your own images and graphics. Once the design is completed and the finished USB cassette arrives you can then load it up with your own ‘mix tape’ of MP3s.

The MIXA costs about $40 but includes worldwide shipping as well as a unique sleeve (also designed by you), a set of MIXA stickers and a USB extension cable.

Samsung & AT&T Announce BlackJack II

Samsung BlackJack II (Image via Samsung)

The original Samsung BlackJack was a big seller for AT&T and one of its most popular smartphones. Samsung and AT&T announced that a new updated BlackJack II would be available later this year. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment 2007 in San Francisco showed the phone publically for the first time yesterday.

The BlackJack II looks a lot like the original BlackJack with a full QWERTY keyboard and a large 2.4-inch QVGA color display and it uses the Windows Mobile 6 OS. AT&T squeezed some interesting new features into the new BlackJack II including AT&T Video Share that allows users to share live video during a voice call from the BlackJack II’s built-in 2MP camera.

Other interesting features include built-in GPS with support for location-based services, RSS reader client, significant improvements in standard battery life, and increased standard memory. The BlackJack II will also offer over-the-air synchronization of contacts, calendar, and task lists with Microsoft Exchange Server or AT&T Express Mail. The phone is expected to cost $149 with a 2-year contract.

Jac Zagoory Staple Removers Make Your Imagination Real

Shark Staple Remover

I’m not much for staplers, since you can’t staple email and paper is soooo 20th century. But you don’t need paper to appreciate the unbridled ferocity embodied in the menacing fangs of a staple remover. Admit it, you used to pretend that they were jaws with nasty big pointy teeth. And finally, they CAN be. This shark staple remover (the companion shark stapler is also available) gets the job done in a toothily satisfying manner, and when nobody’s looking, you can use it to chew up your hapless pencils. You can check out their entire catalog of staple removers of death (including a snake, dragon, 800 pound gorilla, and tyrannosaurus skull) here; sadly, there are no rabbits. $55.

Toothbrush Inspired Sofa Concept

Now This is very cool!Bristle Sofa (Image courtesy Bucks New University)

To be honest I have no idea what actually inspired the design of this unique sofa. It could have been a toothbrush, a scrubbing brush, or even a bed of nails. It was created by a nameless student at Bucks New University in the UK and uses a series of plush ‘bristles’ to provide the sitter (if you can indeed remain sitting) with a relaxing massage.

While it’s obvious that ergonomics take a back seat to comfort with this particular design, it also looks like the sofa could trap large amounts of pocket change in-between each bristle as your guests excitedly try it out. So if the concept ever made it into production, after just a few weeks it might actually pay for itself.
