KornTech’s $1 million Rogun robot recognizes faces

rogun_48We are hastily heading into a futuristic epoch where robots will be seen all around helping us with all the work. Now, a Korean start-up KornTech has developed successfully a perfect Korean home companion. The one-meter tall robot, Rogun, is a new spin on the idea of functioning of robots as it comes loaded with entrenched cameras and face-tracking software, which helps it recognize faces. It is able to identify an intruder by quickly scanning its database, and then alerts the owners of the intruders by cell phone. The 7-inch LCD, which is fixed to the Rogun?s chest, can be utilized for interactive learning and making video phone calls via WiFi. Although KornTech has plans to sell these cute robots for as low as $5000 in the future, you will be surprised to hear that a single unit costs a whopping $1 million at the moment.

The $80,000 Aquarium Fish

most-expensive-fish_12
How much you think you can pay to own a rare fish species for your designer aquarium? I bet it?s not $80,000..or is it! Well, on second thoughts it might be that if you are the one who owns a million dollar fishing lure. This 15″ platinum arowana featured here is considered to be the most expensive aquarium fish in the world. The fish is an Osteoglossum species from South America, rather than the usual Scleropages from Asia, and is owned by Singapore-based Dragon fish breeder Aro Dynasty who claims to have rejected an offer of as much as $80,000 for his fish. And, before you get ready to offer a higher price for this rare breed, Dynasty has implied that the fish is now “off the market.”

Maker Faire: Sony Reader

I’ve been intrigued by the Sony Reader for ages, but hadn’t actually tried one out until I visited the Sony booth at Maker Faire.

I was pleased to learn the Sony Reader is just as big, if not bigger than your average paperback, which means your eyes won’t have to strain to look at the screen. I was also pleased to see how thin the reader is, because while I love the feeling of a nice paperback by the pool, I think I’d invest in a Reader to use when I am traveling.

The device uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery (it apparently lasts for up to 7,500 “page turns”), and it recharges in about 4 hours when using AC wall charger or 6 hours with USB charging from powered computer. (Anyone besides me think that is a long charge time?) It costs $350.
