Ferrari Unica Home Gym

In addition to the obvious Ferrari tie-ins this Unica home gym was actually designed in-house by a team of training experts at the Technogym Research Centre. The machine provides over 25 different exercises and is easy to use even for beginners thanks to the included ‘Wellness Mate’ computer which will guide you through a pre-set training program. But of course the real reason most people will buy the Unica is all the Ferrari-related details that have gone into it.

This version of the Ferrari Unica comes in the most traditional Prancing Horse colours, colours that have adorned thousands of Ferraris and helped make them instantly recognisable throughout the world. The leather trim of its padding is beige, just like classic Ferrari interiors, while the gym frame is Racing Red, the definitive Maranello colour.

The innovative design called for equally avant-garde manufacturing processes and a highly-skilled workforce. Just like the cars themselves, the frames of the Ferrari Unica gym are subject to cataphoresis anti-corrosion treatment prior to being painted for a perfect, long-lasting finish.

And like with an actual Ferrari all that attention to detail doesn’t come cheap. The Unica Home Gym is available directly from the online Ferrari Store and will set you back about $17,700.

Not A Lamp & Not A Box Lights

Not A Lamp & Not A Box (Images courtesy David Graas)
Very cool lights

Designed by David Graas the ‘Not A Lamp’ and ‘Not A Box’ lights take the IKEA idea of flat-packed furniture and apply it to lighting instead. The ‘Not A Lamp’ is designed to sit on a table and has the silhouette of a lamp cut into a simple cardboard box while the ‘Not A Box’ is designed to hang from the ceiling and uses the outline of a light bulb with a simple shade instead.

While I like the negative image effect of both lights I suspect the ‘Not A Box’ is a bit more useful since it has a large hole on the bottom that allows the light from the bulb to shine down onto a table. The intricate pattern of the ‘Not A Lamp’ on the other hand looks like it gives off very little light. So in this case I guess form just edges out functionality.

And from what I can tell both lights come with ’some assembly required’ not to mention supplying your own bulb but I can’t imagine the instructions for putting it together are that hard to follow. The ‘Not A Lamp’ also comes in your choice of brown, orange, green or blue colors.

Rethinking Fire with Starline Vendome fireplace

vendome

Fireplaces are objects of both functionality and beauty. We recently covered the Starline Fire Pyramid collection and now, let’s take a look at the Starline’s Vendome stove. The fireplace falls in the company’s Bio-Fireplace series. Use it on a mountain hut or a city-centre apartment, the Vendome looks great with its modern lines and traditional design.

Plush(ie) Chairs

pandas.jpg

Just as I predicted in 2004, here is a chair whose seat is made entirely of plush pandas. It is probably disgustingly expensive, in addition to be disgustingly cute. But it is also limited edition, so some enterprising person will either have to go for broke or end up gluing little sister’s entire collection together. It’s your choice.

Made by design group Estudio Campana in Brazil, it is apparently commentary on complex socio-economic ideals. I am torn between dearly wanting one of these and my extreme disgust for people who make art and then write an essay on it.

Dylan Designer Contemporary Bed looks to be floating!

dylan designer contemporary bed
We have already seen some ingenious hanging bed concepts, including the Startus Flying Bed and the Magnetic Floating Bed. This seems to be the new trend in bedding furniture. Now, we have the Dylan Designer Contemporary Bed designed by Italian designer, Andrea Lucatello. We know very well that when Italian designers put their hands onto anything, the upshot is always classy. The bed is not actually hanging but, it does looks like floating on the floor.

Beautifully crafted, its unique curve and elevated design gives you a bed that stands out as an amazing piece of design that gives your bedroom a stunning contemporary look. Great attention has been paid to padding, upholstery and the kind of leather used in the making.

The bed comes in two sizes, the Queen European King and Double. You can select colors from white, ivory, dark brown, cream, and black. The gorgeous bed sells for almost $5,500 excluding the mattresses.
